Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type might vary in length and in the number of rooms, however generally it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great choice in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by almost any car and usually contains the most basic equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and economical way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you choose to hire a transport company to ship your caravan, make sure you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
