Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can differ in length as well as in the amount of rooms, still generally it guarantees quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice if you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect area to place additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient as well as affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you choose to find a transport company to transport your caravan, double-check if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
