Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. It can vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, still generally it provides quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It provide you large living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and added expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect area to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient as well as budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to drive necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you want to hire a transport company to ship your caravan, check if you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
