Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can vary in length and in the number of rooms, but generally it ensures quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice if you might want to decrease the costs. It can be towed by almost any car and often includes the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect area to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you decide to hire a transport provider to move your caravan, make sure you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
