Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, yet in most cases it ensures pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative in case you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and often contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and added expandable area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect spot to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you decide to hire a transport provider to transport your caravan, check if you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
