Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual kind of caravan. It has 4 strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan might differ in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides pretty pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great alternative if you need to lower the costs. It can be towed by almost any car and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as additional expandable area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect area to place extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than most of the types described before, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to hire a transport company to transport your caravan, confirm you know the precise measurements of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
