Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can differ in length and in the number of rooms, but in general it provides pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice in case you want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by almost any car and often contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient area to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types described before, but because of the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you choose to hire a shipping company to transport your caravan, confirm you know the specific measurements of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely pay less.
