Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in length and in the number of rooms, yet in most cases it guarantees pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often includes the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. It gives you considerable amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient spot to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have enough time to drive necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you want to find a transport company to ship your caravan, make sure you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you are likely to get cheaper price.
