Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type might range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, yet generally it provides pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative if you need to decrease the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often includes the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to hire a shipping company to transport your caravan, double-check if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
