Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. It can vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, but in most cases it guarantees pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great alternative in case you need to lower the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars and often contains the most basic equipment, such as shower and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as additional pop-out area on the ends of the van, which creates a convienient spot to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types described before, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you want to hire a transport provider to transport your caravan, make sure you know the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
