Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in length and in the amount of rooms, but in general it provides quite convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you might want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and often contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It provide you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added expandable area on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types mentioned above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you decide to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, confirm you know the precise dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.
