Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual kind of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in length and in the amount of rooms, still in general it ensures quite convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect area to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types described above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you want to find a shipping provider to ship your caravan, double-check if you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
