Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual kind of caravan. It has four solid walls and a full height rood. It might differ in length as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides quite pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car and usually includes the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which is a perfect area to place additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned before, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient as well as economical way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to drive necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you choose to find a transport company to transport your caravan, check if you have the exact measurements of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you are likely to get cheaper price.
