Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is often correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. It might range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, yet in most cases it ensures quite pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative if you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and often includes the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as additional pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to travel necessary route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you decide to hire a transport provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
