Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan might range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it ensures quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you might want to decrease the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often contains the most basic equipment, such as shower and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to fit additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you decide to hire a transport company to move your caravan, double-check if you have the specific measurements of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you are likely to get cheaper price.
