Less Than Truckload

Less than Truckload (LTL) represents a practical form of delivery of a relatively small product which does not take a big area and can be very often kept on pallets. It makes use of extra space in the car by combining a few autonomous freightages. This kind of shipment is economical because people are able to distribute the transportation costs with other people that also are willing to use a fraction of the surface available in the car. LTL shipments commonly have a weight of between 151 and 20,000 pounds.

Vehicles specialised in the LTL weigh more than 3.5 tons and are required to be compatible with the arrangements set in a given country. There are numerous kinds of vehicles that may be part of the LTL, but they should be always adequately suited to the type of the cargos which will be moved.

The financial aspect of the shipment is a result of several aspects. Firstly, volume and weight of the freightage. The person ordering should also give a carrier data about the way the product is packed. Don’t forget to mention what you expect to be included in the service – is it no more than the transport or does it also encompass loading and unloading.

When you realise that volume available via the less than truckload does not suffice to ship your cargo, you should decide to use its alternative – full truck load (FTL).
