Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is often associated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might range in length and in the amount of rooms, but generally it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative if you need to decrease the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars and usually contains the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out area on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types described above, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have enough time to travel necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to find a transport provider to ship your caravan, double-check if you have the specific measurements of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
