Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in length and in the amount of rooms, yet in general it provides pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative if you need to decrease the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as additional pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a perfect area to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and budget manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to hire a transport provider to ship your caravan, double-check if you have the exact measurements of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
