Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is often correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might differ in length and in the number of rooms, still in general it provides pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative in case you might want to decrease the costs. It can be towed by almost any car and often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, verify if you give them the specific measurements of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
