Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually associated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in dimensions and in the number of rooms, still in general it guarantees pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative if you might want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often includes the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. It provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out area on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a perfect area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you decide to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, verify if you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of transporting a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
