Yachts transportation

Shipping a yacht demand special machinery and thorough arrangements. A sailing boat is an awfully prone to damage as well as valuable cargo. Any damages (which can be pretty simple to get) could seriously diminish the yacht’s value. This is the reason it is best to search for help from an experienced hauler to transport a yacht – his experience and abilities will be your warrant that your yacht will arrive at its destination without any problems.

Nonetheless regardless of whether you decide to hire a hauler to ship a sailing boat, you need to make some preparations personally. First of all, check the exact size of your yacht. You can rely on the information given by the manufacturer, however it would be best to measure the yacht personally, as even minor differences in size can make the transport more demanding and in some cases even impossible. There are three dimensions you should know when searching for someone to transport your sailing boat: the length, the height and the beam. Length of the yacht is measured between the bow and the transom. The yacht length shouldn’t contain any elements that are located outside of the boat, e.g. an outboard motor. The yacht’s height is measured between the keel and the highest point of the vessel. And lastly, the beam – it is checked where the boat is widest, which usually means near the middle of the vessel.

Please, note that giving the transport provider precise size of the yacht affects not only the safety of the transport but also its price. More than that, it may also influence the time the transportation may occur – as there are countries where the boats above a particular length may not be allowed to be transported by the road in certain times of a day.

Of course, the most risk-free way to transport a sailing boat is to use a trailer dedicated to transporting a boat or a semitrailer (depending on how big the boat is). In case you choose to get help from a hauler, you do not have to worry about securing it properly – the transport provider will take care of that. When looking for a proper transport provider for the job, ask if he has a carrier liability insurance, that will enable you to demand a repayment if anything should happen to your boat in shipment.

The cost of boat transportation mostly depends on the size of the yacht and how long the route is. Other price-defining factor is the weather – harsh weather conditions can cause the boat to damage. In case there is a risk your boat will be shipped in uncertain weather conditions, the hauler must secure it properly, and it could raise the cost of the shipment.
