Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four strong walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type can differ in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, but in general it ensures quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and often contains the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. It gives you large amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to place extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described before, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel required distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you choose to hire a transport provider to ship your caravan, verify if you know the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you are likely to pay less.
