Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might range in length and in the number of rooms, however in general it guarantees pretty pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car and usually includes the most basic equipment, such as shower or a fridge. It gives you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out section on the ends of the van, which creates a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described above, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you want to hire a shipping provider to ship your caravan, check if you know the exact measurements of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
