Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, yet generally it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice if you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by almost any car and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable section on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect area to fit additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned before, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to cover needed route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you decide to hire a transport company to transport your caravan, confirm you have the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
