Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, still in most cases it ensures pretty convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like shower and a fridge. It provide you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable section on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient area to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you decide to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, double-check if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
