Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. It can vary in length as well as in the amount of rooms, still in general it guarantees quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative if you want to lower the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car and often includes the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to travel necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to find a transport provider to move your caravan, make sure you know the exact measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
