Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice in case you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by almost any car and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a perfect area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you want to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, check if you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
