Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type might differ in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, however generally it provides pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative if you need to lower the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars and often includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable section on the ends of the van, which is a perfect area to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient as well as budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you decide to hire a shipping provider to ship your caravan, confirm you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
