Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it guarantees pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice in case you want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to find a transport company to transport your caravan, confirm you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, instruct the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
