Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, but in most cases it provides pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative if you want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you decide to hire a shipping provider to transport your caravan, verify if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
