Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four strong walls and a full height rood. It might range in length as well as in the number of rooms, but in general it guarantees quite pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you might want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It gives you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out area on the ends of the van, which is a perfect area to fit additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than most of the types described before, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient as well as affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you decide to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, check if you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Moreover make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
