Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can differ in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, however in general it provides pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice in case you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by almost any car and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you choose to hire a shipping company to transport your caravan, confirm you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of transporting a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
