Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type might differ in length as well as in the amount of rooms, yet in general it ensures quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative if you need to decrease the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and often includes the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you want to hire a transport company to ship your caravan, check if you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.
