Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, however in most cases it provides quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you might want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by almost any car and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable area on the ends of the van, which creates a convienient area to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as economical way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you choose to find a shipping company to transport your caravan, verify if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – for example whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you are likely to get cheaper price.
