Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. It can range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, however generally it provides pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice in case you need to lower the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable section on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because of the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you decide to hire a transport provider to ship your caravan, check if you have the specific measurements of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
