Motorcycles & Scooters

Motorbikes and scooters are not only expensive, but also hard to secure while being shipped. Although, it turns out that the majority depends on how we do it and how much previous experience with shipping we had gathered. It is doable to transport a motorcycle or a scooter without troubles, no doubts about that. The way it will be secured depends on the type of transportation. Thanks to some valuable advice you will prevent any damages, and dents that often happen if a scooter or motorbike is not properly secured.

When you are transporting the motorcycle using a trailer you will need four strapping belts to strap it down. If you use a trailer which is designed for motorbikes or scooters, it already has been equipped with the rail that stabilises the motorcycle. In this case you will need only 2 belts. It is crucial to use a closed hook at the ends of the belts, rather than an open one. The closed one should not open up accidentaly during the shipment.

It is also worth checking the sharp angles or parts that may possibly tear up the belts and hinder your efforts. It's also reasonable to transport a motorbike inside a truck. The protection and equipment required to keep the motorcycle mounted safely in one place will not vary too much from other ways mentioned before. One thing to be considered is installing the side pads to protect the insides of the van and other objects that might be transported next to the motorcycle.

There are also platforms that attached to a car or another vehicle, can let you ship your motorcycle not occupying the whole space in the car.

Do not forget to check with the shipping company if the equipment they provide will be enough to carry your motorbike. For example, using a wooden platform for lifting your motorcycle and loading it in a van could pose danger to people providing the service or pedestrians passing by, but could also cause substantial damage to your motorbike/motorcycle.

Many of these companies can organise the transport, so that they can use the full capacity of their vans. Thanks to that, shipment gets cheaper and more environmentally friendly with less and less ”empty running”.
