Kart transportation

At first glance transporting a kart seems pretty easy as well as effortless. Actually though such action needs some preparation and often also special equipment to be done safely. There is more than one way of shipping a go-kart: you can use a dedicated trailer, a delivery truck or a regular car (if it’s big enough to fit a kart). When shipping a kart it’s important to fasten it safely to make sure it won’t damage in transportation and also to be certain it won’t pose a threat to other vehicles on the road. A go-kart may be lighter than a quad and a motorcycle, but it still weights about 220 lbs and if it falls from the trailer while on the move, it can pose a real threat on the road.

If you are shipping a kart on a trailer, you should have some durable tie down straps so that you can attach your go-kart to the floor of the transporting vehicle. The kart shouldn’t be able to move while on the road. Remember to have some extra straps along in case some belt rips on the road and you have no choice but to use a new one. If you are transporting a kart on a dedicated trailer, it’s a good idea to enclose the kart in some sheet or even a bed sheet to shield it against atmospheric conditions as long exposure to rain or even dust can cause real damage to your kart, sometimes for good. When you are transporting your kart by a delivery van, it’s a good idea to obtain some bumpers to cushion possible shocks on the road.

Don’t forget to always drain all the liquids from the go-kart before shipment – that goes for fuel and also water and so on. This way you will be able to easily avoid any leakage in case your go-kart falls over during sudden turn.

If you do not own a vehicle that will be able to safely transport a kart or for some reason you don’t want to ship it by yourself, you can always find a transport provider. Most of them will be able to easily fit a go-kart in their transporting vehicles. As a bonus you’ll get access to some professional know-how, for example on what is the best way to secure a go-kart safely, which you’ll be able to use next time you need transportation.
