Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. It might range in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, however in general it provides quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice in case you want to lower the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you want to find a transport company to move your caravan, make sure you have the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
