Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type can differ in length as well as in the number of rooms, but in most cases it ensures quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine choice if you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by almost any car , moreover it often includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to fit additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you decide to hire a transport company to move your caravan, verify if you know the precise dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
