Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 strong walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, but in most cases it ensures pretty convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice if you might want to lower the costs. It can be towed by almost any car and often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It gives you considerable amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the ends of the van, which creates a convienient area to fit additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to find a shipping company to transport your caravan, check if you have the specific measurements of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
