Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, yet generally it guarantees quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable area on the ends of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types described above, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to hire a shipping provider to ship your caravan, verify if you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
