Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in length and in the amount of rooms, still in general it guarantees pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice in case you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by almost any car and often includes the most basic equipment, like shower and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect spot to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you choose to find a transport provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you give them the specific measurements of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
