Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. It might vary in length and in the number of rooms, still generally it guarantees pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good choice if you might want to lower the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars and usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient spot to place extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and budget way of travelling. 

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you choose to find a transport provider to transport your caravan, make sure you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.
