Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has 4 strong walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can differ in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides pretty convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a convienient spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have enough time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you decide to hire a shipping provider to move your caravan, confirm you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
