Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type might vary in dimensions and in the number of rooms, but generally it provides pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good choice if you need to decrease the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually includes the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. It provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a perfect spot to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you choose to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – for example whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
