Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. It can differ in length and in the amount of rooms, but generally it ensures pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice if you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. It provide you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable area on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to fit additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you want to hire a transport provider to ship your caravan, check if you know the precise measurements of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
