Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. It can differ in length as well as in the amount of rooms, but in most cases it provides pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as additional pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you want to find a transport company to transport your caravan, make sure you have the exact measurements of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
