Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual kind of caravan. It has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type might vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, still in general it guarantees quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you want to lower the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars and often includes the most basic equipment, like shower and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than most of the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as economical way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you decide to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, make sure you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of transporting a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
