Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type can differ in length and in the amount of rooms, yet in general it ensures quite comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great alternative in case you might want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you decide to find a shipping company to ship your caravan, check if you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you are likely to get cheaper price.
