Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might range in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, still in general it ensures pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like shower and a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and added expandable area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a convienient spot to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to hire a transport company to transport your caravan, double-check if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely pay less.
